Good fortune prevailed when Gour Ghose was offered the lead role in the Odia film “Amari Gaan Jhua” by Naren Mitra, the owner of Capital Cinema, Cuttack, under the banner Utkal Chitra Pratisthan.

Incidentally, Rai Gour was also cast in the lead in “Pon Rokhya”, the Bengali version of this movie, along with Chitra Mandal and Sadhan Sarkar. The Odia version featured Gopal Ghosh and Chapala Naik (Parbati Ghose) alongside Rai Gour.

The screenplay and direction for both versions were by Binoy Banerjee. Lyrics and dialogue for the Odia version were by Kishore Kabi Shyam Sundar Das and Manoranjan Das, respectively. Manoranjan Das was also the Assistant Director.

“Amari Gaan Jhua” was the first Odia film to address a social theme (Child Marriage). The success of this movie firmly established his career as a lead actor in Odia Cinema.
